COURSE PLAN
Navigating the week tabs below:
General Info about Homework:
- Each week has information about the chapter and the topics we will work on, the "Wortschatz" (vocabulary) connected to that chapter, and the homework and other things due on a specific day. Everything you see in a section has to be completed before class starts that day (e.g. studying vocabulary, finishing homework, and submitting certain things). This means that on Friday, you need to look ahead to Monday and see what you will need to complete before class starts on Monday.
- Links embedded here will lead you to the right destination (DDD book, submission folders on Moodle, etc.).
General Info about Homework:
- Some homework assignments take you to our online textbook, some to Moodle, some to google forms, some elsewhere.
- Homework on the Der/Die/Das (DDD) Website
- Homework in our online textbook Der/Die/Das (DDD) comes from a certain chapter (Kapitel = K) and a certain unit in that chapter (Thema). Homework is then divided according to themes, which can help you study better (e.g. "Vorstellen" = Introduce yourself). Then, you will see the terms "Interaktionen" and "Strukturen" below - they mirror the wording on the DDD website. Interaktionen I offers preliminary exposure to the vocabulary and grammar structures. The Strukturen then introduce the grammatical concepts and practice them. Interaktionen II practice the grammatical structures and vocabulary more. Each of these Interaktionen or Strukturen has a number that will help you orient yourself in the material: e.g. Kapitel 1 Thema 1 (K1.1), Vorstellen: Interaktionen 1.1
- Do all assignments first, then use the "answer key." Choose the appropriate file for the topic/theme that you are working on. This is your way to check whether you understood the material. Go through your homework and check your answers. Be honest to yourself. Do this for each day’s homework. Correct what was wrong before. Make sure you finish homework each day. This helps your learning. Doing everything at the end of the week is not helping your language acquisition because you will miss information that is needed in class.
- Follow the order of the homework assignments included in the lists below, even when that list is in a different order than the website presents it. Our order will help build skills in an way that will hopefully make it easier for you with how we planned class sessions.

Q&A for Projects
Tuesday and Wednesday are dedicated to the spontaneous part of our oral evaluations. For this, please follow the instructions below.
Tuesday and Wednesday are dedicated to the spontaneous part of our oral evaluations. For this, please follow the instructions below.
- Read the final project forum entries of all groups of your section (section 1-3a here and section 2-4a here) to familiarize yourself with the projects of your fellow students.
- Revisit your own project! It’s best to do that together with your partner.
- You will individually take on two roles today and tomorrow: tour customer and tour guide.
- Tour customer:
- Write out four specific questions in German for each tour. This is part of your oral grade! You will ask some or all of these questions today and tomorrow. Anything about the material/the tour is possible, but pay attention to the following: ask one simple question that you know the group will be able to answer; ask two medium-hard questions, and one question that can lead to a brief discussion. You can ask for certain details of the tour, you can have questions about certain sights, their history, their significance, you can ask the tour guides “personal” questions relating to the content of the tour and their positionality… Try to be creative with your questions. Good questions inspire a longer answer than only one sentence. Revisit the grading criteria for the spontaneous section of the final presentation online. Revisit the vocabulary and sentence structure for asking questions. Remember: everything is in German.
- Bring these questions to class and submit them here on moodle on Tuesday before class.
- As the tour team:
- Prepare yourself to answer the questions from your fellow students: make sure you revisit all your tour spots, the information you want to provide, etc. Revisit the vocabulary and sentence structure for asking questions as well - in case you have to ask a clarifying question back. Revisit the survival expressions as well, in case you don’t understand. Practice with your tour partner or yourself to answer spontaneous questions, so you can prepare as best as possible. Your answers are part of the oral exam performance of the final project. Remember: everything is in German.
- Tour customer:
- After today and tomorrow:
- Use the feedback you received in the Q&A sessions to improve your tour! Remember: You will take us on your tour with your partner for 10 minutes in a recorded session. Revisit the criteria for grading and the description of this part online on our website. Already plan now when you will meet during exam week so you can work on the presentation together. You can plan your parts individually, even with the slides and pictures, but you need to meet in order to coordinate your tour and to put together and record the presentation. Who will speak when? Plan helpful transitions. Rehearse your tour. Make it fun for your audience (us!). You won’t be assessed on the cinematic quality, so don’t spend too much time editing. Bloopers are awesome!
Mittwoch
see Tuesday above
EXAM WEEK 18.-20. Nov.
- Record your tour with your partner.
- Combine all the texts from the individual projects, edit, expand, and turn into a final script. Please color-code in your script who wrote what.
